Why A Goldendoodle?

Goldendoodles are intelligent and obedient, devoted to family, and a friend to strangers. They are very social and happiest when with people, especially children. They are typically not aggressive toward other dogs, cats or people.

Goldendoodles are highly trainable. Their intelligence and their eagerness to please makes them very easy to train.

Most Goldendoodles are allergy friendly and low to non shedding, although require regular combing to keep the coat in good condition. A haircut every 8-12 weeks is recommended to shorten the coat for easier care.

 

Generations

There are a few different ways Goldendoodles are produced.

The first generation (F1) standard size Goldendoodle was the first to be bred. It is the product of a standard Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. The back cross (F1b) Goldendoodle is produced by crossing an F1 Goldendoodle with a Poodle.

  • F1 Goldendoodle =Golden Retriever X Poodle (50% Poodle / 50% Golden Retriever) = Some will shed a little to none , others a bit more, but nothing like a Golden, Allergy Friendly.

  • F1B Goldendoodle = F1 Goldendoodle X Poodle (75% Poodle / 25% Golden Retriever) = Most F1B's Are Non-Shedders, Most Allergy Friendly

  • F2 Goldendoodle = F1 Goldendoodle X F1 Goldendoodle (50% Golden /50% Poodle) = Some will shed a little to none , others a bit more, but nothing like a Golden

  • F2B Goldendoodle = F1 Goldendoodle X F1B Goldendoodle (62.5% Poodle / 37.5% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed Like An F1B , Straighter one will Shed like an F1

  • Multigen = Two Goldendoodle parents - One parent has to be an F1B or Multigen. A Poodle bred to a Multigen Goldendoodle also constitutes a multigen

 

Sizes

The size of the Goldendoodle depends on its parentage. A general rule of thumb is to add both the parents weights together and divide by 2 to get an average adult weight on the puppies. Within any litter there may be puppies that fall above or below the projected adult weights.

  • Mini - 20 to 35 pounds

  • Medium - 35 to 45 pounds

  • Standard - 50 pounds and up
